MOVIE REVIEW: “Silk”
“Silk” (2007)
Directed by/Screenplay: Francois Gerard
Cinematography: Alain Dostie
Starring: Keira Knightly, Michael Pitt
~2 Onions out of a possible 4 Stars~
This is a shockingly disturbed film. It is by far the most serious attempt at non-acting that has been witnessed in decades.
One has to wonder why Francois Gerard (“The Red Violin”) spent all the amount of money he did on the beautiful locations, sets, costumes, etc., and them dump Michael Pitt & Keira Knightly into the middle of all this.
Michael Pitt is the most insipid, pouty-lipped excuse for an actor I have ever seen. There are no traces of a human being, living or dead, inside the body of this human android. For that matter, nobody is acting in this film.
It’s all fake acting. The dialogue is about 120 degrees beyond heinous. The woman are beautiful but their attempts at ennui are really just disguises for prolonged cardiac arrest while someone left the cameras running.
This film would have been better served if they had taken out the actors, did a voice over, and talk to us about the Silk trade route to Japan during the 1860’s, and aired it ton the Discovery Channel as a Documentary.
I am so glad that I happened to have taken a pair of scissors with me to the movie. I stabbed myself in the arms repeatedly throughout the duration of the film to keep myself awake.
Just recently, I put a camera in my hand (with 240 hours of film), and focused on a leaf. I called the film “Leaf.” It is the sequel to “Silk.’ The prequel to both is a film called “Sleep.”
It was shot by Andy Warhol and has a running time of over eight hours.
